God's people need Hope!

For some, that hope is as basic as knowing for sure that you are saved!

1 Peter 3:15

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

The the Bible teaches us the we are to examine ourselves whether we be in the faith. this article is designed to help you do that. Follow along and find rest for your soul.

2 Corinthians 13:5

5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

I have often been confronted with people who are perplexed

over the matter of their salvation. Some people are lost, but assume that they are saved with no legitimate reason for that assumption. Others are truly saved but they have no confidence that they are. I have developed the following test which you can take. It will guide you, and help you determine whether you are truly saved or not. It will take away false hopes and ground you into a genuine biblical assurance. Take the following test and see how you do. There is no reason for you to be confused about this important matter of your own eternal salvation!

Assurance Questionnaire

  1. Do I believe that Jesus is God’s Son, the Christ? (That is, do I believe that Jesus is God manifest in the flesh.) I John 4:15; 5:1 YES NO

  2. Have I believed on Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior? (Do I have Jesus living in my life and is he directing and guiding my life? Am I trusting Him alone for my salvation) I John 5:12,13 YES NO

  3. Do I walk in darkness or light. (Do I walk in truth, purity, righteousness, honesty, virtue? Am I living for the Lord daily?) I John 1:5, 6; 2:6, 29. YES NO

  4. Do I desire to live a life of increasing purity? I John 3:3. YES NO

  5. Do I live in willful obedience to the Word of God? I John 2:3-5. YES NO

  6. Do I love the brethren? (When you love someone, you want to be with them, and do them good. A person who claims to know the Lord and yet has no desire to assemble with other believers has a serious spiritual problem. Also, you never want to intentionally hurt one you love. Genuine Christians live a life of forgiveness and they are difficult to offend.) I John 2:9,11; 3:14,15; 4:20. YES NO

  7. Do I overcome the world or am I in love with the world. (Am I growing less and less fond of the world) I John 5:4; 2:15. YES NO

  8. Do I have a sense of my own sinfulness? (It is amazing that people who do not know the Lord and aren’t trying to live for him think that they are alright. They say, “I’m no worse than anyone else.” They are always trying to justify themselves. A genuine Christian realizes that he is nothing and Jesus is everything. Without Christ, he realizes that he is lost and undone.) I John 1:8,10 YES NO

  9. Do I eagerly anticipate the return of Christ? (Do I live as though he could come at any moment?) I John 3:2 YES NO

  10. Do I have a growing freedom from sinful behavior, or am I living a life of sin? I John 3:6-10; 5:18; 3:3. YES NO

  11. Do I demonstrate God’s love in word and in action? I John 3:18,19. YES NO

  12. Does my conscience tell me that I am truly a Christian? I John 3:19-21. YES NO

  13. Does the Holy Spirit of God live inside of me and witness to me that I am a real, genuine Christian? (Do I sense the Holy Spirit leading me from day to day?) I John 3:24; 5:10. YES NO

  14. Do I have the ability to distinguish truth from error? I John 4:6. YES NO

  15. Do I have an understanding about God. (Do I know who He is and what He is doing and what He wants, or is God a tremendous mystery to me?) I John 5:20. YES NO

Score yourself. each question is worth 6.6 (or 7) points each. add up the number you answered “yes” to and multiply that number by 6.6 (or 7). How did you score?

If you were on trial for being a christian,

would there be enough evidence to convict you?
