How should we interpret the Bible?

That may sound like a simple question—but beneath many of the most heated theological debates lies an even more fundamental issue:

 

What rules are we using to interpret Scripture?

How we understand prophecy, Israel, the Church, the covenants, the kingdom, and the last days depends greatly upon how we approach the biblical text in the first place.

So I have begun a new, long-term study:

 

The Bible’s Own Hermeneutic

A Biblical Examination of Scripture, Prophecy, Israel, the Church, and the Covenants

Rather than beginning with a theological system and then asking Scripture to fit it, this study begins with Scripture itself.

 

How did Jesus interpret the Scriptures?

How did the apostles handle the Old Testament?

How did the biblical writers understand prophecy and fulfillment?

And can we identify interpretive patterns within Scripture that should govern how we read Scripture ourselves?

 

Before we settle the controversy, we need to settle the method.

The study is organized into three major parts, beginning with the Bible’s own testimony concerning revelation, Scripture, interpretation, prophecy, and fulfillment.
