He is Greater! The Secret To Victory!

1 John 4:4

4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

For your encouragement, notice a couple of words in this verse.

1. “Have overcome” - This word indicates a victory that occurred in the past, and yet continues in the present....

2. “he that is in you” - John does not identify this one that is in us, however, John is not trying to confuse us....let’s look at the context.

1 John 3:24

24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

Christ dwells in us,

Galatians 4:19

19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

Ephesians 3:17

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Colossians 1:27

27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Christ is in us….When he came to live within, this is when our victory began. Christ is in us by the Spirit of God. (Remember, Christ is bodily in Heaven right now) -

See Romans 8:10-11.

It is the Spirit of God that stands in stead of and representative of Christ in all of his fullness…(Now there are three distinct persons in the Godhead (Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20; Colossians 2:9)…The Father is not the Son and the Son is not the Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Father - God is ONE…there is only ONE GOD manifested to our finite understanding in three persons...and because God is one....then if the Spirit abides in you, so does Christ and so does the Father....In other words....God abides in you!

2 Corinthians 6:16

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Note these powerful verses....about our Powerful God who indwells us by His Spirit!

1 John 4:12–13

12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

Do you see the connection...We have God’s Spirit…Therefore we have God dwelling in us...

The Holy Spirit is God - Acts 5:3-4

It is the believer’s privilege in this life to be filled with the fulness of God, by the Spirit of God

Ephesians 3:19

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

The word “fulness” means the state of having every necessary and normal part....so, in other words...Whatever God is and whoever God is in his person.....that is what dwells within us....and it is to dwell within us in a generous/abundant supply...The only way to know this fullness of God is to know the Love of Christ!

The word “Know” expresses the knowledge one only has through experience. Christ desires to teach us his love in all of the varied circumstances of life.....

THIS PRECIOUS INDWELLING CHRIST, IN THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT…THIS PRECIOUS GOD THAT DWELLS WITHIN US IS GREATER!!!!!

GREATER THAN WHO OR WHAT?

See our original verse!

“He that is in the World”

This is a reference to Satan.

1 John 5:19

19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

The world is in the Devil’s domain, and its philosophy is an expression of his values and agenda….. (Ephesians 2:2).

John 10:10

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

This evil one (the devil) is rendered powerless by the Greater Spirit of God who lives within us...Satan, the demons, the Antichrists, and false teachers are no match for the Spirit of God as believers yield themselves to Him. As we battle the forces of evil, in all their varied manifestations, this fact is a great comfort, assurance, and encouragement and it gives us great hope (Ephesians 6:11-18)!

Romans 8:31

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Does Christ dwell within you?
